marshall
: Each relay transition station including the race start and finish
requires one individual who is responsible for the organization and
operation of the station. This is a supervisory position and previous
volunteer experience at a race of this nature is preferred. Station
crew: There are five stations in the race which require volunteers
to keep the station running smoothly. The responsibilities at each
station include: relay runner check-in, water station operation, special
needs bag hand out for ultra runners, and set-up/take-down of the
station. Each station is manned by 6 to 8 volunteers. On
route marshall
: There are a few points along the race route that can be confusing
for runners. Each of these spots requires one or two marshalls
to help guide the runners in the right direction. Traffic
marshall
: There is only one spot on the entire race course where runners
need to cross a road open to traffic. This spot is towards the end of
the race on Supply
truck driver: We will require two people to drive trucks with relay
station and aid station equipment. One truck will drop equipment off for
volunteers and the second truck will pick equipment up after the last
runner goes by each station. Aid
station crew: Between each relay transition station we will place
one aid station with water and sports drinks for the runners. Each of
these aid stations requires 3 or 4 volunteers. First
aid: Each transition station and aid station requires qualified
first aid personnel to attend to any injuries or emergencies. Mile
out radio operators: Relay station 2, 3, 4 and finish will have one
volunteer located one mile before the station to radio relay team
numbers to the station. A second volunteer is required at the station to
receive and record the numbers. This is to assist teams in knowing when
their next runner needs to be ready to go. This job can be done by HAM
radio operators provided both people at the station are licensed and
have their own equipment. We will also have some two-way radios for
stations without licensed HAMs. Finish
line: We require an extra 4 or 5 people at the finish line station
to help with timing. Post
race: Volunteers are required to
help with food preparation, food service, beer ticket sales and beer
service.
